Vampire Diaries - Lost Girls (review)

I’ve been watching the show every week, waiting and waiting for it to get better. I would have stopped watching if it was terrible. It isn’t terrible, it just is. But this past Thursday’s episode blew me away. It was so good! I’m so surprised (did they get a new writer? new director? like what’s up?). It’s nice to have finished plot lines finally, they’ve been dragging the show and I think that’s why it’s been mediocre.

If you haven’t watch the show, but enjoy shows for teens, or vampires or the 19th century, then just start with this episode. It’s amazing and you won’t feel lost! It wraps up so many story lines in a movie action way.

I’m a really big fan of the 19th century. I love the literature, art, customs and so on. I had a suspicion that this show would provide flashbacks and it did! The quality was decent, I’d give the historical costumes a “B” grade. When Buffy did the 19th century, the set’s production design and costumes were perfect.

The episode “Lost Girls” of Vampire Diaries is what the show needed. I hope they continue at this pace. And here’s crossing my fingers for more 19th century flashbacks.

Genova (2008)
Starring: Colin Firth, Willa Holland, Perla Haney-Jardine
This is a movie about two sisters who loose their mother in a car accident. Their father decides to relocate them from Chicago to Genova, Italy. While the younger sister Mary deals with hallucinations of her dead mother, the teenage sister Kelly deals with her sexuality.
I was excited to see this movie because Colin Firth is in it! He’s a wonderful actor and I thoroughly enjoy all of his movies. This is an interesting movie aesthetically, however it does move rather slowly and the ending is alright, but it felt hollow.
This is a good movie for anyone who has had to live outside their own culture or has an interest in Italy. I liked that the movie took the viewer into a lot of different churches, since they were all fascinating.

Middle of Nowhere (2008)
Starring: Susan Sarandon, Eva Amurri, Willa Holland, Anton Yelchin
Grace is desperate to attend college, but doesn’t have the money. She struggles living with her irresponsible mother and model-like-looking sister. Their family has been torn apart since their father’s suicide. While working at her summer job, Grace she meets Dorian who helps her make money by selling weed.
This movie is for anyone who enjoys seeing the reality of teens with messed up parents. It’s fun because it has a locals only feel to it, especially when the rich summer vacationing teens enter the mix in Grace’s hometown. You might think the plot could be predictable, but there’s enough plot twists to keep your attention. Here are some of my quotes!“Virtue is it’s own punishment.”“I could see it on your face, ya know? I see it in your eyes. You need to escape your world just as much as I do.”“Except that you’re trying to escape down and I’m trying to escape up.”“There’s no up and down, there’s just free and trapped.”“Fall apart on your own time!“Rejecting great things doesn’t make you noble Dorian, it just makes you naive and stupid.”

New Gossip Girl Season 3 Promo

Gossip girl returns tomorrow, September 14, for its third season.
The first episode of the new season is called “Reversals of Fortune”.
Here’s the official summary: “As summer draws to an end, Blair and Chuck continue to adjust to being in a relationship with one another. Serena returns from Europe with new secrets to hide and a new relationship with Carter Baizen. Nate also returns from vacationing and brings home a mysterious girl, Bree Buckley. Meanwhile, Rufus, Dan and Jenny spend the summer in the Hamptons and learn to adjust to the van der Woodsen’s glamorous lifestyle.”
Why do I watch the show? For Chuck & Blair. And for Blair’s amazing wit and wardrobe. Also because it’s filled with breathtaking scenes from New York City.

The Vampire Diaries
Premieres Thurs. Sept 10 at 8/7c

Yes, I’ve been waiting for this show to come on air. Even though vampires are all the craze right now (uh, hello: “Twilight”), I still love them to death (pun intended).

I started my vampire obsession during the first season of Buffy. Since Buffy, there have been several vampire tv shows, but many failed to develop a cult following and where cancelled. Currently, vampire lovers have True Blood on HBO, which is pretty fun and campy as hell. I watch it, but I’m not “obsessed”.

Maybe I’m just being nostalgic or something, but I think teen vampire stories are awesome. I’m hoping this show will live up to expectations of its fanbase. I haven’t read any of The Vampire Diaries, but if this show is half decent, I might find myself on another fandom’s bandwagon.

(By the way, The Vampire Diaries, came out before the Twilight series, so don’t knock it before you try it.)

Freaks & Geeks

With September right around the corner, it is the perfect time to revisit Freaks & Geeks. While you may be heading back to school soon or wishing you were, this is an amazing series about the kids who just don’t fit in anywhere (let alone at school).

I absolutely love watching this series all the way through. Though it only lasted 18 episodes, you can’t help but fall in love with every character. If you’re into James Franco or Seth Rogen, then this show won’t let you down. This show was acturally Seth’s first “real” job.

Freaks & Geeks was created by writer-comedian Paul Feig and producer Judd Apatow.
